ENTOMOLOGY INSPECTIONS & CERTIFICATES

When a property is sold in certain coastal areas, including KwaZulu Natal, an entomological inspection is required by the bank before they will finance the property transaction.

Most sale agreements include a clause that requires the seller to produce a valid certificate of clearance where wood-destroying insects are reported on and eradicated.

It is very important that the pest control company’s inspector who carries out the inspection is specifically qualified to carry out these inspections and is registered with SAPCA (The South African Pest Control Association) as an approved inspector for wood destroying organisms.

Many registered pest control operators have not been specifically trained to carry out these inspections and issue the valid ceritifcate required. Pest Shield’s inspectors are properly qualified and registered with SAPCA.

When carrying out the inspection the inspector will inspect for and report on wood destroying insects (not general pests like cockroaches or ants) that can cause significant damage to timber in a building.

These will include subterranean termites and dry wood termites like Cryptotermes Brevis (which is most common) and some wood destroying beetles.

If an infestation is found appropriate recognised treatments will be need to be carried out before the certificates can be issued.

If you are needing an entomology inspection for your own needs or for the sale of a property contact Pest Shield whose inspector has over 25 years of experience specifically in this field.
